Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O LORD, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. Riches and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and it is at your discretion that people are made great and given strength.\u201d\u00a0 <\/em>Have you ever prayed a prayer of praise like this to God?\u00a0 Would you like to?\u00a0 You could do so right now!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">Today we begin First Kings!\u00a0 First Kings is an amazing book of the Bible.\u00a0 We\u2019ll be diving into David\u2019s son Solomon\u2019s reign and the building of the First Temple in Jerusalem.\u00a0 You\u2019ll recall that Solomon wrote many of the Proverbs, and in chapter 3 of First Kings we will learn why Solomon had the wisdom to be able to write such amazing proverbs that have stood the test of time for some 3,000 years!\u00a0 Below is an image of King Solomon dictating his wise Proverbs:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Book:<\/span>\u00a0 First Kings<br \/><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Author<\/span>: Unknown<br \/><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Date<\/span>:\u00a0 Sixth century B.C.<br \/><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Content<\/span>:\u00a0 First and Second Kings form one book in the Hebrew Bible and are considered to be prophetic literature, probably because a prophet put the books together.\u00a0 The two books cover a period of approximately 350 years, when kings ruled the land, hence the name of the book.\u00a0 First Kings begins with the death of David, followed by a description of Solomon\u2019s reign, including the building of the first Temple in Jerusalem.\u00a0 The split of the kingdom into Israel (North) and Judah (South) is described, ending with the great conflict between Elijah the prophet, and Ahab, the king of Israel.<br \/><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Theme<\/span>:\u00a0 The fact that a history book is considered to be prophetic is important.\u00a0 It shows that God speaks to us from the past, as well as from the present experience of others.\u00a0 These events are recorded so that we will not make the same mistakes again.\u00a0 The conflict between Elijah and Ahab shows God\u2019s immediate involvement in human life and his concern for human affairs.\u00a0 First Kings particularly shows the disastrous effects of social evil upon the spiritual life of a nation.\u00a0 <em>(Above commentary is from Tyndale Publishers \u201cThe One Year Bible Companion\u201d p. 6) <\/em>More commentary on First Kings is at these 3 links \u2013 <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">https:\/\/bible.org\/article\/introduction-books-first-and-second-kings<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">https:\/\/bible.org\/seriespage\/reign-solomon<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\"> (Introduction to Solomon)<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">https:\/\/bible.org\/seriespage\/1-introduction-and-historical-setting-elijah<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\"> (Introduction to Elijah)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">First Kings chapter 1 is quite a chapter today!\u00a0 David is old!\u00a0 Adonijah claims the throne!\u00a0 David makes Solomon King!\u00a0 Quite a dramatic chapter, eh?\u00a0 Adonijah was David\u2019s 4th oldest son, and probably the eldest son living at this time.\u00a0 First son Amnon was killed by Absalom.\u00a0 Second son Daniel was probably not living at this time.\u00a0 Third son Absalom was killed in his rebellion.\u00a0 So, fourth son Adonijah thought now was his moment to shine.\u00a0 Well, as Paul Harvey would say, \u201cnow for the rest of the story\u2026\u201d\u00a0 The chapter tells us the story well.\u00a0 Solomon was clearly God and David\u2019s choice for the kingship.\u00a0 Below is the artist Raphael\u2019s take on verses 39 &amp; 40 today:\u00a0 <em>\u201cThere Zadok the priest took a flask of olive oil from the sacred tent and poured it on Solomon\u2019s head. Then the trumpets were blown, and all the people shouted, \u201cLong live King Solomon!\u201d And all the people returned with Solomon to Jerusalem, playing flutes and shouting for joy. The celebration was so joyous and noisy that the earth shook with the sound.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\"><strong>Worship Video:<\/strong> David\u2019s prayer in 1 Chronicles 29 today reminded me of Casting Crowns song \u201cGlorious Day:\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\"><strong>Is today a glorious day?<\/strong>\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">Click here for Glory!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\"><strong>Please join us in memorizing and meditating on a verse of Scripture today:\u00a0 <\/strong><em>\u201cYours, LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours.
