The \u201cWHERE IS MY HUSBAND?\u201d singer-songwriter told the outlet she stays \u201coffline as much as she can,\u201d adding that staying away from social media has significantly improved her mental health \u2014 an unsurprising outcome given the data showing chronic Instagram use\u00a0is intrinsically tied\u00a0to higher levels of depression, anxiety, and stress.<\/p>\n
Listen to the latest\u00a0episode\u00a0of \u201cQuick Start\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n A\u00a0Pew Research Center survey\u00a0from 2024 found close to half of teenagers (48%) believed social media sites had a mostly negative impact on their peers \u2014 a stark increase from the 32% who said the same in 2022.<\/p>\n The temptation to compare one\u2019s life to others online is a huge driver of insecurity when it comes to social media usage, and Scripture offers myriad warnings against comparison.<\/p>\n For example, in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, the Apostle Paul wrote,<\/p>\n Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever (NLT)!<\/em><\/p>\n And in Philippians 2:2-4, he wrote, \u201cThen make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Don\u2019t be selfish; don\u2019t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don\u2019t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too\u201d (NLT).<\/p>\n Raye said being off social media \u2014 and away from the constant commentary on her \u2014\u00a0has helped her thought life.<\/p>\n \u201cI think since I\u2019ve come offline, it\u2019s been much better; ignorance is bliss,\u201d she said. \u201cIf someone said I look awful in a dress, it\u2019d make me sad. If I don\u2019t know someone said I look awful in a dress \u2026 so I\u2019m really big on being offline.\u201d<\/p>\n The pop singer, who was raised in a Christian home, has credited her faith with keeping her alive.<\/p>\n She\u00a0told the BBC, \u201cThere\u2019s a world in which, if I didn\u2019t find faith again, I might not even be here. There\u2019s a lot of demons trying to claw at you and drag you to somewhere you don\u2019t belong, so I\u2019m really grateful I have this faith. It\u2019s honestly pulled me out of a really dark place.\u201d<\/p>\n Raye has a reference to Psalm 91 tattooed on her arm.<\/p>\n She described the Old Testament passage as \u201ca protection prayer,\u201d\u00a0telling Louis Theroux, \u201cWhenever you\u2019re scared or feel unsafe, any negative energy comes to you or whatever, I\u2019ll pray this prayer.
