The PBS series \u2014 a long-running program geared toward toddlers \u2014\u00a0is facing scrutiny over a social media post commemorating the start of Pride month. The post in question features an image of the characters\u2019 multicolored furs stacked to create a rainbow image.<\/p>\n
\u201cHappy Pride Month from Sesame Street!\u201d reads the caption of the post. \u201cJoin us in celebrating and uplifting the LGBTQIA+ members of our community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Texas-based Pastor Josh Howerton\u00a0responded to the post, \u201cGuys, there is no universe in which it makes sense to message to children about sexual desires, regardless of worldview. Stop and think about what you\u2019re doing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Brilyn Holland, an up-and-coming conservative activist, called the post \u201cgross.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s no scenario where Elmo telling kids to follow their sexual desires isn\u2019t strategic grooming from activist[s] cosplaying as educators,\u201d he\u00a0wrote on X.<\/p>\n
Turning Point USA, the conservative activist organization founded by the late Charlie Kirk,\u00a0replied to\u00a0the \u201cSesame Street\u201d post, \u201cThis is literally a show meant for young children.\u201d<\/p>\n
Another social media influencer, known as Jack Unheard,\u00a0wrote, \u201cDon\u2019t let your kids watch this absolute garbage.\u201d<\/p>\n
This is not the first time the PBS show has delved into sexuality during the month of June.<\/p>\n
In addition to frequently posting about Pride month, in 2021, \u201cSesame Street\u201d commemorated the time of year\u00a0by introducing a homosexual couple\u00a0in its Family Day episode, which aired on YouTube and HBO Max.<\/p>\n
The episode showed Nina introducing Elmo and his friends to her brother and his husband, played by Chris Costa and Alex Weisman.<\/p>\n
