The effort is part of the broader “Make America Healthy Again” agenda and reflects growing concerns about food security, supply-chain resilience, and consumer safety.

Have you taken your place on the wall?

From Just the News:

The process was discussed as part of an FDA meeting on Monday in which nearly 40 scheduled speakers talked about the challenges and solutions toward improved lot-level food traceability – among them were Margaret Hardin Mannion, of the National Association of Convenience Stores, and Mark Coast, of Blockchain Agricultural Solutions Inc.

…

Food security is considered a cornerstone of national security because a country’s ability to reliably produce and access sufficient, affordable, and safe food underpins economic stability, public health and resilience against external shocks.

Disruptions from wars, pandemics, trade conflicts, or supply-chain failures can lead to shortages, price spikes, unrest, and vulnerability to foreign leverage, especially if a country relies heavily on imports or adversarial-owned assets in critical sectors like farmland, processing, or inputs (e.g., fertilizers and crop protection.)

The FDA’s focus is on what is known as “lot-level traceability,” the ability to track a specific batch of food products from their origin all the way to the point of sale. Advocates say improved traceability could allow regulators and businesses to identify contaminated products more quickly, reducing the scope of recalls and helping prevent illnesses from spreading across multiple states.

At the same time, some industry groups have expressed concerns about the costs associated with implementing the FDA’s Food Traceability Rule. Compliance is expected to be required within the next two years, and businesses throughout the food supply chain are evaluating how new tracking systems could affect their operations. Industry representatives generally support food safety improvements but have urged regulators to minimize unnecessary burdens on producers, distributors, and retailers.

The discussion also aligns with broader Trump administration efforts to secure America’s agricultural sector. In July 2025, the administration unveiled its National Farm Security Action Plan, emphasizing the connection between food security and national security. The initiative seeks to reduce vulnerabilities in the food supply chain, limit foreign ownership of farmland near sensitive sites, strengthen domestic production capabilities, and improve preparedness for agricultural diseases and other threats.

Foodborne illness remains a significant challenge in the United States. According to estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 48 million Americans become sick from foodborne illnesses each year, resulting in roughly 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths. Pathogens such as Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli, and Campylobacter are responsible for many of the most serious cases.

Major outbreaks over the past two decades have highlighted the importance of rapid traceability. The deadly 2011 Listeria outbreak linked to cantaloupes and the massive Peanut Corporation of America Salmonella outbreak both resulted in widespread recalls, illnesses, and deaths. Supporters of enhanced tracking systems argue that faster identification of contaminated products could help prevent similar tragedies in the future.

For intercessors, efforts to protect the food supply can be viewed as an important aspect of stewardship and caring for our neighbors. Ensuring that families have access to safe, reliable food while strengthening America’s resilience against disruptions serves both the common good and the nation’s security.

Share your prayers for food supply and security in America below.

(Excerpt from Just the News.
