But in America, a culture of death has been spreading for decades. We’re more familiar with the ‘polite’ Orwellian term “reproductive health” to describe abortion – the killing of a pre-born baby in the name of choice.

Post a prayer for your state!

But there is another hideous death trap that hides under the ‘compassionate’ and helpful umbrella of “healthcare,” and it’s now legal in thirteen states and D.C.

These laws go by many comforting names – Death with Dignity… Physician-Assisted Suicide… Medical Aid in Dying… Right to Die. But like abortion, it is the deliberate killing of a human being. What it really is… is state-sanctioned Euthanasia.

Thirteen States and Counting

The District of Columbia and thirteen blue states have made human euthanasia legal. They are California, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington.

The first state to pass such euthanasia laws was Oregon in 1994. The most recent is New York, when Governor Kathy Hochul signed a euthanasia law in January 2026, writing, “I was taught that God is merciful and compassionate, and so must we be. This includes permitting a merciful option to those facing the unimaginable and searching for comfort in their final months in this life.”

Governor Hochul, along with nearly every governor who signs these death bills into law, stresses the “guardrails” in place for euthanasia’s ‘limited’ application. For now, those guardrails include being over 18 and suffering from a terminal disease with death expected in six months.

Currently, three more blue states – Virginia, Maryland, and Massachusetts – are in the process of passing such laws in 2026.

What is Physician-Assisted Suicide (PAS)?

While many in the medical community call this practice of physician-assisted self-murder “merciful”, it is, in reality, a direct violation of the Hippocratic Oath, which states:

“I will do no harm. Neither will I administer a poison to anybody when asked to do so, nor will I suggest such a course… I will abstain from all intentional wrongdoing and harm.”

The American Medical Association’s Code of Medical Ethics describes PAS as…

“Physician-assisted suicide occurs when a physician facilitates a patient’s death by providing the necessary means and/or information to enable the patient to perform the life-ending act (e.g., the physician provides sleeping pills and information about the lethal dose, while aware that the patient may commit suicide).”

And further warns…

“It is understandable, though tragic, that some patients in extreme duress—such as those suffering from a terminal, painful, debilitating illness—may come to decide that death is preferable to life. However, permitting physicians to engage in assisted suicide would ultimately cause more harm than good. Physician-assisted suicide is fundamentally incompatible with the physician’s role as healer, would be difficult or impossible to control, and would pose serious societal risks.”

Even with the AMA’s stern warning about the negative impact of PAS on society, states continue their rush to legalize euthanasia in the name of compassion… to avoid suffering… and to put one out of their misery.

Like abortion, PAS is wrapped up in the same delusional mantra of ‘my body, my choice’. I have the right to do what I want. In other words, self before the will of God – the true cause of every sin in life, and now death.

What Does God Say?

As Christians, we know that our Heavenly Father is intimately familiar with our lives and has appointed the length of our days. The Bible makes it clear that our lives are in God’s hands, and He knows the time of our death.

Since his days are determined, the number of his months is with You. (Job 14:5)

Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. and in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them. (Psalm 139:16

Teach me to number my days that I may know wisdom. Psalm 90:12

Acts 3:15 refers to Jesus, the Son of God, as the ‘author of life.’ Genesis affirms that God created man in His image. Daniel 5:23 declares that it is God who holds your life in His hands, and the Sixth Commandment states you shall not kill.

As Christians, we must stand strong against the intentional taking of a human life, which leaves the dying, the elderly, the chronically ill, the unborn, persons with disabilities, and the mentally ill at a high risk of their lives being devalued and discarded.

Coming to America?

We only have to look at the path of abortion in our country from Bill Clinton, ‘safe, legal and rare” to abortion today—which is abortion anytime, anywhere and at any age. You can even order your abortion pills online, and they’ll be shipped directly to your door.

Many European countries began their “death with dignity” spiral with the same guardrails as America’s blue governors. But in the past decade, they have quickly moved to expand euthanasia approval to those who suffer from “mental suffering”, including depression, anxiety, trauma, and personality disorders. These people are not terminally ill.

For example, a 53-year-old British mom went to Switzerland, where assisted suicide is legal, to end her life. Her son had died four years earlier, and she said she could not bear the grief of losing him. She claimed that “no amount of medication or therapy can make her whole again, and she can’t wait to die, so her spirit would be free.” She died on April 24 at an assisted suicide clinic.

In Belgium, doctors can terminate the life of a child, of any age, who makes the request. An 11-year-old boy with cystic fibrosis was given euthanasia approval, as was a 9-year-old boy with a brain tumor, and a 17-year-old boy with muscular dystrophy.

In May of this year, a 29-year-old Dutch woman who suffered from depression, borderline personality disorder, and autism was euthanized. Her psychiatrist had told her, “There’s nothing more we can do for you. It’s never going to get any better.”

Psychiatrists in these countries, who allow PAS for mental illness alone, have seen a steep increase in euthanasia requests from their patients.

Currently, no U.S. state allows PAS to include mental illness as a sole qualifying condition – yet. But it may only be a matter of time.

Canada Euthanizes its 100,000th Patient

Canada has the world’s fastest-growing program for euthanasia. In less than a decade, Canada has euthanized 100,000 people. In fact, PAS accounts for 5.1% of all deaths in Canada. And many of the country’s “guardrails” have been dismantled.

A Canadian doctor euthanized a 45-year-old man suffering from Crohn’s Disease after a brief evaluation in the parking lot of a grocery store. The doctor even drove the man to a morgue and administered the lethal shot.

A 26-year-old Canadian man with Type 1 diabetes, who had led to legal blindness, was killed by euthanasia. A homeless man with a lung disease requested to be euthanized, and it was granted. People euthanized with nonterminal conditions were “more likely to… [have] higher levels of residential instability, higher material deprivation and a greater dependency on government support,” said Ontario’s Chief Coroner, Dr. Dirk Hyer.

Canada even offers same-day assisted suicides, meaning euthanasia approval and death occur within 24 hours. One woman changed her mind, but she was killed anyway. Canada got rid of its 10-day reflection period in 2021.

Canada even actively tells terminal and non-terminal patients they qualify for PAS before offering alternative medical treatments to extend their lives or ease their pain.

Canada also approved adding mental illness as a sole reason for euthanasia, and it will begin in 2027. A Canadian doctor, Louis Roy, has suggested that babies up to one year old with severe deformities could be euthanized under Canada’s PAS laws.

Canada’s Euthanasia Prevention Coalition Executive Director Alex Schadenberg suggests it may be more than compassion that drives Canada’s death cult.

“Dead people don’t cost money,” he told Newsmax. “We have massive deficits in Canada, and euthanasia is a great way to save money.”

Will this be the solution America chooses to solve its skyrocketing healthcare costs? Will America follow the rest of the world’s path from terminal-only to non-terminal disabilities, mental illness, and homelessness?

Could we even move from ‘voluntary’ medical aid in dying to compulsory, based on age, disability, or chronic illness?

Suicide is NOT “Healthcare”

According to Gallup, 66% of Americans believe doctors should be allowed by law to assist the patient in committing suicide. Sadly, 53% agree that PAS is morally acceptable.

Christians must stand against this ‘culture of death’ gaining support in America. While deeply sympathetic to anyone suffering a terminal illness, a chronic painful condition, or mental illness, we believe our hope and trust are in God.

Life is a gift from God who breathes the breath of life into us – Genesis 2:7. For in Him we live, and move, and have our being. (Acts 17:28). Making death easy for those who suffer undermines the value of life, rejects hope, and places your will above God’s will.

Our hope must be in the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus. It is Jesus who conquered death and brings life and immortality through the gospel. (2 Timothy 1:10) It is Jesus who walks with you in suffering and pain.

As the Apostle Paul said of his own suffering, that it was temporary and producing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison. (2. Cor 4:17 NASBO) Of Jesus’s suffering on the cross, Hebrews states, For the joy [of eternity) set before Him, He endured the cross…

Death is not the final chapter of life. We can look forward to a new world after death, where Revelation 21:4 promises that there is no more death or mourning or crying or pain.

The Christian Medical Fellowship proclaims…

“For those, however, who do not know God, euthanasia is not a ‘merciful release’ at all. It may rather be propelling them towards a judgment for which they are unprepared. It may be the worst thing we could ever do for them! (Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 20:15). Euthanasia is wrong because God says it is wrong. Instead, He points us to a better way, offering hope, love, and compassionate care.”

For He will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death. Psalm 72:12,13 (NIV)

Let’s Pray

Father, may we be filled with compassion for all those who are suffering. May we hold Your grace and truth close to our hearts. We pray for vulnerable people in pain and facing death or chronic illness or suffering from anxiety, depression, or despair. We pray for Your comfort and love to envelop them. Relieve any suffering of body, mind, heart, and spirit. Grant them your presence and peace.

May doctors and nurses have true and godly compassion for their patients and treat them with their medical skills. May medical personnel refuse to pressure anyone into PAS.

Lord, we pray for public and political opinions to change. We pray that legislators would enact laws that show Your mercy and Your compassion and promote life in all of its God-given dignity and hope, especially those most vulnerable.

We pray that moral support and effective programs and ministries will rise up to care for those with life-limiting or terminal conditions. Please provide financial resources for ministries, pregnancy resource centers, mental health hotlines, elder care, support groups, disability and patient advocates, and hospices so they may continue caring for those in need. Please bless their work.

Lord, we pray for those countries and states where assisted suicide is legal and where the expansion of categories, including depression, disability, and even poverty, is occurring. May they repent and turn towards Your will. We pray for an end to this evil everywhere it exists.

We pray for any state or country that is considering enacting legal euthanasia. May their plans come to nothing. He who trusts in his own heart is a fool. But whoever walks wisely is delivered. (Proverbs 28:26)

Lord, may Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. We pray that life would be honored, valued, and treasured at every stage. In Jesus’ name.
