Shirley, meanwhile, urged lawmakers to investigate what he described as widespread fraud involving federally funded programs. Both men argued that if independent journalists could uncover these alleged abuses, government agencies should be able to identify them as well.

The hearing also featured testimony from Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Rand Paul, who cited estimates from the Government Accountability Office that fraud costs taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars annually. Sen. Joni Ernst echoed those concerns, arguing that waste, fraud, and abuse remain pervasive throughout the federal government. Democrats on the committee largely skipped the hearing, although Ranking Member Gary Peters criticized Republicans for focusing on these cases while not conducting greater oversight of President Trump. Peters also noted that the Department of Justice has already prosecuted several of the Minnesota fraud cases discussed during the hearing.

The hearing also revealed the international scope of some of these fraud operations. In a video of the hearing published by the Daily Wire, Senator Ron Johnson highlighted that $700 million in cash flew out of Minnesota in suitcases carried by Somali couriers. Shirley confirmed this, explaining that much of the money was sent to Somalia. Shirley also discussed Cuban-run companies in Miami that are stealing from Medicaid, stating, “a lot of foreign governments have infiltrated our Medicaid because it’s so simple, and it’s so easy to defraud.”

IFA intercessors have prayed for years that hidden corruption in our government would be exposed. Whether involving taxpayer dollars, election integrity, or abuse of public trust, Scripture makes clear that God hates dishonest gain and calls leaders to administer justice impartially. While allegations should always be investigated carefully and due process respected, we should also welcome legitimate efforts to uncover wrongdoing wherever it exists.

The cases discussed during the hearing demonstrate that investigative journalism can play an important role in bringing questionable practices to light. In recent years, undercover investigations by independent journalists have prompted criminal investigations and prosecutions in multiple states. In this instance, federal prosecutors have already secured charges against numerous individuals connected to a Minnesota daycare and Medicaid fraud scheme, while the woman captured in O’Keefe’s voter registration video has agreed to plead guilty to paying people, including homeless individuals, to register to vote.

We should pray not only for the exposure of corruption but also for leaders with the courage to confront it. Government is ordained by God to reward what is good and punish wrongdoing. When officials faithfully steward taxpayer dollars and protect the integrity of our elections, they strengthen public trust. When fraud flourishes, however, it erodes confidence in our institutions and robs resources from the people who truly need them.

How are you praying for truth, accountability, and integrity in our government?
