Mikie Sherrill to hand over records on roughly 6,600 noncitizens who were wrongly registered to vote. The error happened in the state’s Motor Vehicle Commission system. About 400 of them actually cast ballots.

From The Epoch Times:

In the letter, Dhillon said the DOJ is investigating the matter and asked the state to provide the full names, dates of birth, nationalities, residential addresses, and registration dates and locations of those who were improperly registered. The DOJ also sought information on where and when the 400 people had previously voted. The state is required to provide the information within five business days, according to the letter.

“Ensuring that U.S. citizens’ votes are not illegally diluted by noncitizens’ votes is of paramount importance,” Dhillon said in the letter.

Dhillon also said the department would inform the district court of its lawsuit against New Jersey about the disclosure, saying it provides an additional basis for its request to obtain an electronic copy of the state’s voter data.

The error happened between June 2023 and June 2024, under the previous administration. Gov. Sherrill took office in January. She says she did not cause the problem but is moving to fix it. She has ordered an investigation and told election officials to remove the wrongly registered people from the rolls.

New Jersey is not the only state under pressure. The DOJ sued five states in February for not handing over voter records needed to catch ineligible voters. Earlier this month, the DOJ warned election officials across the country that letting noncitizens vote could bring criminal charges. The White House is using this situation to push for the SAVE America Act, which Republicans say would strengthen election integrity.

Every illegal vote cancels out a legal one.
