Actor Chris Klein, who has had a long and successful career in Hollywood, is preparing for the release of his latest movie, \u201cBad Counselors,\u201d a comedy about second chances and redemption.<\/p>\n
Listen to the latest\u00a0episode\u00a0of \u201cQuick Start\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cAt its heart, it\u2019s a story about finding grace in yourself and becoming a better person than you were,\u201d Klein said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s a story that resonates for all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n The premise of \u201cBad Counselors\u201d is certainly comical.<\/p>\n \u201cTwo frat bros must become church bros, fast,\u201d the synopsis reads. \u201cAfter one wild night ends in handcuffs and a campus police escort, two best friends are slapped with 120 hours of community service due in two weeks, or they\u2019re expelled. Their genius plan? Pose as counselors at a local Christian youth camp, where every sing-along, campfire devotional, and trust fall counts toward the clock. Just one problem (okay, three): they don\u2019t like kids, they hate camping, and they have barely set foot in a church.\u201d<\/p>\n Klein said the movie, which\u00a0hits theaters\u00a0July 22-27, offers a story that will resonate with anyone who has \u201ccome of age\u201d as it deals with growing, learning, and making life change. The actor said he was drawn to the film because director and screenwriter Chris Dowling is a close friend whom he has long wanted to work with.<\/p>\n Ultimately, Klein took the role of Pastor Tom, which he enjoyed.<\/p>\n \u201cEvery once in a while, a character in a story comes around, and where you are as an artist, and where you are in your life, they just line up,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I really found that with Pastor Tom.\u201d<\/p>\n While Klein joked he\u2019s not becoming a pastor, he said the notion of mentorship and the preacher\u2019s standing as a dad was deeply relatable to where he is in his own life right now.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m a father. I\u2019ve come of age. I am now a mentor to young people,\u201d he said. \u201cI have two children of my own. You know, my volunteer service these days is spent coaching and supporting my children\u2019s goals, and ambitions, and inspirations, and their friends.\u201d<\/p>\n As for growing interest in faith-and family-friendly entertainment, Klein said he\u2019s seen firsthand the \u201cvery healthy appetite\u201d that exists for Christian and family content right now.
