Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche issued an order on Aug. 2 formally rescinding President Donald Trump\u2019s $1.8 billion \u201canti-weaponization\u201d fund ahead of his nomination hearing.\n<\/p>\n
\u201cMy team and I have met with committee members and Senators over the past several weeks and addressed any concerns or outstanding questions,\u201d Blanche said in a post on X.\n<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have enjoyed good faith discussions, and as a result issue the following order and update with regard to the May IRS settlement,\u201d he said of the fund created by the Department of Justice (DOJ) to compensate victims of \u201cweaponization and lawfare\u201d that a court deemed to be improper.<\/p>\n
The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to meet today to consider Blanche\u2019s nomination after postponing an earlier vote when concerns emerged over the DOJ\u2019s creation of the fund. Sens. John Cornyn and Thom Tillis had signaled they might withhold their support unless questions surrounding the fund were resolved, making the issue a key hurdle for Blanche\u2019s confirmation.\n<\/p>\n
