<\/p>\n
Jeremiah 49:1-33; 2 Kings 24:5-7; 2 Chronicles 36:6-8; 2 Kings 24:8-9; 2 Chronicles 36:9; Jeremiah 22:24-23:32<\/strong><\/span> Chapter 49 does not bring good tidings to the Ammonites or Edomites. Verse 16 again gives us a good look into why this judgment is coming upon Edom: \u201cYou are proud that you inspire fear in others. And you are proud because you live in a rock fortress and hide high in the mountains. But don\u2019t fool yourselves!\u201d<\/em>\u00a0 Pride. Again. Pride. Think Pride is something that has been a temptation of humans since the Fall? Think this temptation continues today?\u00a0 Verse 6 does give the hope of redemption for the Ammonites: \u201cBut afterward I will restore the fortunes of the Ammonites,\u201d says the LORD.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0This map below will give you a quick snapshot of the location of the Ammonites, Edomites, and Moabites from today\u2019s readings:<\/span><\/p>\n Today in Jeremiah we read about one of the last Old Testament era kings to sit on the throne of David in Judah!\u00a0 This was King Jehoiachin and God makes it clear that this is one of Judah\u2019s last Davidic kings (with Zedekiah being governor\/king of Judah briefly subsequently) in chapter 22 verse 30: \u201cThis is what the Lord says: \u2018Let the record show that this man Jehoiachin was childless. He is a failure, for none of his children will succeed him on the throne of David to rule over Judah.\u2019\u201d<\/em> Immediately after reading about this king of Judah, Jeremiah 23:1-8 gives us a great Messianic foreshadowing of Jesus, the true and eternal Davidic king! Verses 5 & 6: \u201cFor the time is coming,\u201d says the Lord, \u201cwhen I will place a righteous Branch on King David\u2019s throne. He will be a King who rules with wisdom. He will do what is just and right throughout the land. And this is his name: `The Lord Is Our Righteousness.\u2019 In that day Judah will be saved, and Israel will live in safety.\u201d<\/em> Great stuff! A righteous branch on King David\u2019s throne\u2026. rules with wisdom\u2026 will do what is just and right throughout the land\u2026 Think this is Jesus??<\/span><\/p>\n The remaining verses in Jeremiah 23 go after false prophets. I know in reading Jeremiah I\u2019ve been pondering how hard it would be to be Jeremiah, a prophet with some tough messages.\u00a0 Well, in this chapter it looks like being a false prophet is really the wrong way to live. If you\u2019re gonna be a prophet, make sure you\u2019re prophesying the truth\u2026 \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 \u00a0Do you think there are any false prophets in our world today?\u00a0 Do you avoid listening to the teachings of false prophets in our world today?\u00a0 (other than if you need to listen to what they say to repudiate it)\u00a0 Can we sometimes even be false prophets to our own selves and others on occasion?\u00a0 Who can free us from the lies of false prophets?\u00a0 (see the image above \u2013 not the modern day false prophets image below\u2026)<\/span><\/p>\n Worship God: <\/strong>Today\u2019s readings reminded me of Rebecca St. James\u2019 song \u201cWait for Me\u201d:<\/span><\/p>\n \n
