Walt Disney Animation Studios just released the first trailer for its upcoming kids\u2019 movie, \u201cHexed,\u201d and it\u2019s already getting attention.<\/p>\n
Jenn Nizza, a former psychic who abandoned the occult after coming to faith in Jesus, described the film as \u201creally disturbing,\u201d arguing in an interview with CBN News that Disney is presenting witchcraft \u2014 necromancy, as it\u2019s called in Scripture \u2014 \u201cin a really beautiful way.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201c[It] makes me think of Satan masquerading as an angel of light \u2014 and that\u2019s really disturbing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She soon discovers she has magical powers and enters a world called Hexe, where she learns more about witchcraft, spells, and how to channel her supernatural abilities.<\/p>\n While the film seems to suggest there is witchcraft that is morally good, Nizza explains that\u2019s not the case, pointing to biblical admonitions against such practices.<\/p>\n In Deuteronomy 18:10-14 (NLT), it says:<\/p>\n Do not let your people practice fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD. It is because the other nations have done these detestable things that the LORD your God will drive them out ahead of you. But you must be blameless before the LORD your God. The nations you are about to displace consult sorcerers and fortune-tellers, but the LORD your God forbids you to do such things.<\/p>\n There is no morally acceptable witchcraft in God\u2019s sight, according to Scripture.<\/p>\n Although some might argue movies like \u201cHexed\u201d are just entertainment, Nizza said such films are problematic.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s so important to disregard the aesthetic, because it\u2019s the same evil and it\u2019s the same author of these practices: the devil,\u201d she said, later adding, \u201cThis isn\u2019t just a movie. This is implanting and brainwashing the demonic agenda into your minds and into the minds of your children.\u201d<\/p>\n Nizza continued, \u201cWe ought to guard our eye gates, our ear gates, and we should be extremely discerning and, honestly, not glorify or celebrate anything that Jesus died on the cross for.\u201d<\/p>\n For her part, Nizza could relate to the main protagonist in \u201cHexed,\u201d because her interest in witchcraft began at a young age, when she was searching for answers, meaning, and belonging.<\/p>\n \u201cThrough that vulnerability \u2026 she\u2019s offered this purpose, identity, and power through witchcraft,\u201d she said of Billie\u2019s character. \u201cThat is exactly how it started for me when those demonic doors were opened \u2026 at age 12 [or] 13.\u201d<\/p>\n *** AI tools threaten to hide CBN News from your online searches! Sign up for\u00a0<\/strong>CBN Newsletters\u00a0today to<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0ensure you can still find the latest news from a Christian perspective.***<\/strong><\/p>\n And, much like it\u2019s portrayed in \u201cHexed,\u201d Nizza believed the divination she was practicing was a benefit to herself and those around her because \u2014 in her words \u2014 she wasn\u2019t \u201cout there trying to curse people for bad things to happen to them.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI was doing readings because I believed I really was talking to deceased people, and I had to help them get messages out to their loved ones that were here for \u2026 healing, solutions, some sort of peace, some sort of wisdom.\u201d<\/p>\n It wasn\u2019t until her salvation and her abandonment of the occult that she learned she was not, in fact, speaking to dead people.<\/p>\n Instead, she recalled, she was in communication with \u201cdemons\u201d who were \u201cmasquerading as grandmothers, husbands, wives, and children.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI was completely demonically oppressed,\u201d she said. \u201cOf course, I wouldn\u2019t have known that word then \u2014 heavy times of depressions, anxieties. \u2026 Demonic oppression is a side effect \u2014 is what I call it \u2014 or a consequence of dealing with the demonic, serving the devil.
