Jenn Nizza, a former psychic who abandoned the occult after coming to faith in Jesus, described the film as \u201creally disturbing,\u201d arguing in an interview with CBN News that Disney is presenting witchcraft \u2014 necromancy, as it\u2019s called in Scripture \u2014 \u201cin a really beautiful way.\u201d \u201c[It] makes me think of Satan masquerading as an angel of light \u2014 and that\u2019s really disturbing,\u201d she said.\n<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s so important to disregard the aesthetic, because it\u2019s the same evil and it\u2019s the same author of these practices: the devil,\u201d she said, later adding, \u201cThis isn\u2019t just a movie. This is implanting and brainwashing the demonic agenda into your minds and into the minds of your children.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
Nizza continued, \u201cWe ought to guard our eye gates, our ear gates, and we should be extremely discerning and, honestly, not glorify or celebrate anything that Jesus died on the cross for.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHexed\u201d is set for theatrical release on Nov. 25 and follows Billie, a teenage outcast who discovers she has magical powers and enters a world called Hexe, where she learns witchcraft, spells, and how to channel her supernatural abilities. Nizza said she personally relates to Billie\u2019s storyline, explaining that her own descent into the occult began at age 12 or 13 when she was searching for answers, meaning, and belonging, only to be offered purpose, identity, and power through witchcraft, the same arc she sees portrayed in the film\u2019s marketing.\n<\/p>\n
Nizza spent years practicing as a psychic medium, believing she was communicating with deceased loved ones on behalf of grieving families. She said she saw her work as genuinely helpful, since she wasn\u2019t attempting to curse anyone but rather deliver messages of healing, peace, and wisdom. It wasn\u2019t until her conversion to Christianity that she came to understand what she now describes as the truth behind those experiences. She said she was never speaking with the dead at all, but with demons masquerading as deceased relatives, and that she was living under what she calls demonic oppression, marked by depression and anxiety she didn\u2019t recognize as spiritual at the time.\n<\/p>\n
Nizza pointed to Deuteronomy 18:10-14, which explicitly forbids fortune-telling, sorcery, spell-casting, and consulting the spirits of the dead, calling such practices \u201cdetestable\u201d to God. She emphasized that Scripture draws no distinction between \u201cgood\u201d and \u201cbad\u201d witchcraft, arguing that regardless of how a film like \u201cHexed\u201d frames its magic system, the spiritual source behind it remains the same.\n<\/p>\n
This story matters because it raises a question many Christian parents wrestle with when choosing entertainment for their children: does the packaging of evil change its nature? Nizza\u2019s testimony offers a sobering firsthand account of how occult practices, even when they feel benevolent or well-intentioned, can open doors to genuine spiritual bondage, and her warning is rooted not in speculation but in her own lived experience before Christ set her free. As parents evaluate what their children watch, scripture calls believers to guard their hearts and minds and to be discerning about what they allow to shape them (Philippians 4:8, Deuteronomy 18:10-14). Pray for discernment for Christian families navigating entertainment choices, for the protection of children\u2019s hearts and minds from spiritual deception, and for those still trapped in occult practices to encounter the same freedom in Christ that Nizza found.\n<\/p>\n
