The agency made 50,208 arrests in July and roughly 43,000 arrests in June.

In a statement shared with The Daily Wire, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said ICE officers are “working around the clock” to arrest and deport illegal immigrants roaming the country.

The August numbers suggest that the administration’s immigration crackdown is continuing to accelerate. ICE reportedly made roughly 43,000 arrests in June before surpassing 50,000 in July and setting another record with 50,925 in August. According to The Daily Wire, ICE sources said personnel are now working seven days a week, with the agency requiring 70% of its personnel to report for duty each day.

One operation contributing to the August enforcement effort was “Operation Rotten Apple,” a month-long sweep across New York. According to the Department of Homeland Security, ICE and its federal partners arrested 2,197 illegal immigrants across the state between July 27 and August 29.

Federal officials said those arrested included individuals with convictions or arrests involving murder, rape, sexual crimes against children, kidnapping, drug trafficking, and other violent offenses. Among them was a Ukrainian national convicted of kidnapping, weapons offenses, and murder, as well as an Indian national previously convicted of rape in Germany.

The operation also brought renewed attention to the clash between the Trump administration and sanctuary jurisdictions. DHS says New York’s sanctuary policies have resulted in 13,621 criminal illegal immigrants being released rather than transferred to federal immigration authorities.

New York ICE Field Office Director Kenneth Genalo said those policies force federal officers to locate illegal immigrants in neighborhoods, workplaces, and other public areas rather than taking custody of them in controlled environments such as local jails. He also said ICE personnel faced harassment, threats, and intimidation while carrying out Operation Rotten Apple.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul pushed back against the administration’s characterization of the state’s policies, saying New York cooperates with federal authorities to remove dangerous criminals from the streets. “So spare us the theatrics,” she wrote on X.

The dispute highlights a fundamental disagreement over immigration enforcement and the responsibilities of state and federal government. The administration argues that sanctuary policies make immigration enforcement more dangerous while allowing potentially dangerous individuals back into communities. New York officials, meanwhile, reject the suggestion that their policies prevent cooperation against serious criminals.

With ICE now breaking arrest records for three consecutive months, the administration appears determined to make immigration enforcement a defining priority. Let’s pray for the safety and wisdom of officers carrying out these operations, for justice to be administered fairly, and for our leaders to pursue immigration policies that uphold the law while protecting American communities.

How are you praying for our nation’s immigration officials and leaders?
