missing<\/em>. It notes that a visitor to the Museum today will find no major exhibit dedicated to America\u2019s Founding era, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, other Founding Fathers, the Continental Congress, the Pilgrims, the Puritans, or major moments of the American Revolution, such as Washington\u2019s crossing of the Delaware. Instead, visitors will find Founders, such as Benjamin Franklin, introduced chiefly through their connection to slavery while their decisive roles in building the Republic and their anti-slavery efforts are minimized or ignored.\u201d [emphasis added]\n<\/p>\nThis is astonishing when you think about it. Our leading American history museum, sometimes called \u201cAmerica\u2019s Attic\u201d because it contains the artifacts of the nation through the centuries, is accused of ignoring \u201cAmerica\u2019s Story\u201d \u2014 and of all things, during the year of our 250th celebration.\n<\/p>\n
And the report adds: \u201cGeorge Washington and Abraham Lincoln appear in didactics that say next to nothing about who they are, let alone why they matter. The Pledge of Allegiance is treated as a tool for instilling nationalism without serious engagement with its rich meaning.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
No Washington, no Lincoln, but there is space to promote trans ideology. When Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina) asked Anthea Hartig of the Smithsonian, \u201cCan a man become a woman?,\u201d Hartig\u00a0responded, that it is irrelevant. Mace counter-argued that it is very relevant, given the pro-trans display at the museum, which could even be viewed by children.\n<\/p>\n
Rep. Bradon Gill (R-Texas) weighed in on the Smithsonian\u2019s woke displays. He\u00a0told\u00a0Fox News, \u201cWe need an actual objective telling of American history, not [looking] back on the American story and grouping different people into racial or ethnic groups or groups based on their gender or their sexuality or their immigration status \u2026 we are one American people, and I think that\u2019s what we need to see.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
In his End of Day Report, Gary Bauer, former Reagan Administration official,\u00a0opined\u00a0on the whole scenario, \u201cCultural barbarians have hijacked the Smithsonian Institution and the National Museum of American History. Thankfully, President Trump and congressional Republicans are fighting back, trying to save our history from the cultural barbarians.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
In one sense, this topic is not totally new. The last time I visited the museum was in 2018, and I was shocked to see how biased the display was. It was really anti-America. You would think this is one of the worst countries in the world.\n<\/p>\n
I even wrote a\u00a0column\u00a0about the overall message of the museum; it was during a time before the border was closed by Trump.\n<\/p>\n
I began, \u201cThose poor people at the southern border. So many of them are risking their lives to try and get what they think is a better life here in America. They don\u2019t realize how bad things are here. They haven\u2019t been exposed to the constant America-bashing message coming from the liberal institutions that dominate our schools, our culture, our entertainment, and even our museums.\u201d And I went on to describe my visit to the Smithsonian Museum of American History.\n<\/p>\n
What\u2019s at stake in this battle over our history? Our freedom and our future. Consider the warning from Daniel Webster. He was one of the great American leaders in the 19th century, including in the U.S. Senate, whose oratory was legendary.\n<\/p>\n
On July 4, 1802, Webster\u00a0declared, \u201cWe live under the only government that ever existed which was framed by \u2026 deliberate consultations of the people. Miracles do not cluster. That which has happened but once in 6,000 years cannot be expected to happen often. Such a government, once gone, might leave a void, to be filled, for ages, with revolution and tumult, riot and despotism.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
Hear. Hear. Custodians of America\u2019s Attic should keep this in mind.\n<\/p>\n
