“You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.” Psalm 139:5
God has given every one of us amazing potential, but that does not mean that all of us will reach it. You have to choose to develop your potential. There’s a Japanese fish called the koi fish. The koi fish is amazing because it is majorly influenced by its environment. Do you know if a koi fish is put into a small fish tank, it will not grow any bigger than four inches? But if you take that same fish out of the little tank and put it in a larger fish tank, it’ll grow eight inches. If you put it in a pond, it will grow 18 inches, and if you take it out of the pond and put it into a lake, it will grow 42 inches. The point is this- every koi fish has the potential to be 42 inches long, but many of them only grow to four inches because of the environment they are kept in.
And the same is true for us. You have enormous potential, but if you don’t ever get exposed or challenged to greater things, you will stay the same. If all you do is stay a small fish living in a small bowl instead of getting around people who stretch you to reach and use your faith, then you will not grow to your potential. The Bible says, “The same power that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you!” So don’t live in a fishbowl when God has greater things planned for your life.
There was an ice factory that caught on fire. Ironically, the workers had to call the fire department. The ice factory had all they needed to put out the fire, but the problem was that all their resources were frozen. You have enormous potential, but if your talents and resources are frozen, you cannot be what God intended you to be. Pray this year, “God, release my potential. Keep challenging me. Let me move from faith to faith and victory to victory. Don’t let me settle for a little fishtank mentality when you have greater things for me. Always enlarging me, motivating me, and driving me to be the best version of myself. Help me to be all you have created me to be. Amen.”
