Training for Elected Officials in Cuba…..Seems Like an Oxymoron

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

Each day brings fresh evidence that the God-given foundational principles of our Constitutional Republic are being challenged. This conflict is unfolding on many fronts — including within our school boards. While many dedicated board members are standing firm for truth, liberty, and meaningful education, others are pushing agendas that threaten the very bedrock of our nation’s identity. The fight for the future of our children — and our country — is unmistakably underway.

Who is praying on the wall?

Daeja Baker, a school board member for Shaler Area School District in Pennsylvania, has begun a fundraiser so that she can go to Cuba. She states, “that she has been selected amongst other elected officials all over the country to go to Cuba this coming June. I will be learning community and political organizing tactics that I know will positively impact our community. This trip is going to cost some money. Please donate to my campaign to send me to Cuba. Goal amount is $5,000.”

According to a post on the fundraiser page, Daeja has been chosen to accompany other elected officials to Cuba in June to do “solidarity work” and learn about progressive ways to address social issues such as housing, fighting for LGBTQ rights, and education. The fundraiser is encouraging people to donate to “improve the school district, local community, and political solidarity work.”

Kimberly Sterner for PA State Committee posted on her Facebook page that Daeja Baker is actually violating the ethics and school board bylaws and policies. She goes on to say that Baker is not permitted to use her title and office position to fundraise.

Carl Higby from Newsmax reported on Baker’s fundraiser asking why we should donate to a fundraiser to learn progressive ways to address LGBTQ, to go to Cuba, and then to teach our students about communism. His guest, Angela Morabito, spokesperson for Defense of Freedom Institute, replied that there is too much woke in our schools and why would anyone need to go to a communist country to get more which makes no sense.

Libs of Tik Tok posted Baker’s fundraiser stating that she is begging for money so she can go to Cuba to learn “progressive ways” to address “LGBTQ rights and education.” They went on to ask, “Why are US elected officials taking trips to foreign countries to learn strategies for pushing far-left activism?”

Baker, a social worker, has openly endorsed socialism on her Facebook page, Daeja Baker for Shaler Area School board. She states, “socialism is this idea that we can work in a system where our labor is not owned, but is shared and that we will be able to provide what is needed to everyone rather than many of us working for little money and very few people having abundance.”

Baker was endorsed by Run For Something, an organization who according to their Facebook page “recruits and supports young, diverse progressives for down ballot races in order to build a bench for the future.” Their strategic plan is to “build power where it starts” at local offices, school boards, city councils, and state houses. They go on to say, “while DC spirals, communities are organizing. While some leaders fold, new ones are stepping forward. This is defense and offense. This is how we flip the map from the bottom up.”

According to Medium.com, Run for Something’s strategic plan states, “Our candidates will run and win, securing state legislative seats, municipal offices, and seats on school and library boards across the country. They will fight like he** against Trump—and at the same time, they’ll proactively advance good policies, showing people what it could look like when our side is in charge.” In addition, according to this site, 165 millennials and Gen Z leaders won races for local offices across the country, including 43 Red to Blue flips.

The attacks unfolding in our education and governmental systems are troubling, though they did not happen overnight. Decades ago, the “Long March to Communism” movement emerged with the stated goal of transforming Western culture by steadily influencing its core institutions — especially higher education and media. Today, many see the impact of that strategy in the rise of particular leaders such as Baker, and in groups such as Run for Something, which are actively attempting to shape the future of political leadership.

May we stand together against this overt attempt to turn this nation to communism. May we beg God to have mercy on us and turn this around, to return to our God-given principles upon which this nation was founded. May we pray for and see a rising up of godly candidates on every level to stop the flood tide of evil trying to destroy this nation. May we see organizations rising up to help, to train, to support and endorse godly patriots to run and win seats on every level of government. May we see massive godly voter turnout for every election. May we see parents rise up in their God-given authority to stand for the protection of their children’s innocence. May we plead with the Lord for a heart change for every deceived and lost soul on every level of government and within the educational system. May our children learn the truth about God, our nation, and what God intended for our families all in the mighty name of Jesus. Lord. send revival, Lord send it now.
