    Reading Time: 2 minutes

A prolonged Department of Homeland Security shutdown is raising serious concerns as lawmakers return to Washington without a clear path forward. With uncertainty surrounding pay for TSA officers and other DHS employees, the standoff is beginning to impact both national security and everyday Americans.

Do you want state prayer alerts?

    From The Hill:

Lawmakers are set to return to Washington this week as questions over future pay for Department of Homeland Security (DHS) employees — including Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers — loom over efforts to end the partial shutdown.

The impasse follows a last-minute split before the Easter recess, when Senate Republicans advanced a measure to fund most of DHS, but House Republicans rejected it, sending lawmakers home without a deal.

Pressure to end the record-long department shutdown had been building as the funding lapse strained airport operations nationwide. …

This ongoing shutdown reveals how political division in Washington can quickly spill over into real-world consequences. DHS employees, such as TSA officers, are being forced into uncertainty, and that instability weakens critical systems Americans rely on every day. According to The Hill, March 27 saw a dangerous peak as 12.35% of TSA employees called out across the nation, resulting in hours-long lines at airports.

As The Hill notes, President Trump signed an executive order to pay TSA employees retroactively for work performed since the shutdown began in February. However, many view this order as only a temporary fix, as TSA workers still fear what the future may look like without a lasting agreement in Congress.

The divide among Republicans is also playing a major role in prolonging the crisis. While some leaders are attempting to move forward with a phased funding strategy, others strongly oppose splitting DHS funding from immigration enforcement priorities. This internal conflict is slowing resolution efforts and raising questions about whether unity can be achieved in time to prevent further disruption.

This is a critical moment to pray for wisdom and unity among our nation’s leaders. God calls those in authority to act justly and steward their responsibilities well. When confusion and division dominate, it’s up to Intercessors to stand in the gap, asking the Lord to bring change in the areas that politics and executive action cannot reach.

Leave a prayer below for our leaders and for DHS employees — and share this article to encourage others to intercede for our nation.
