“Neither give place to the devil.” Ephesians 4:27 (KJV)
At one of our campuses, we have a huge cross at the top of our building, and sometimes I see buzzards perched up there. I don’t like seeing them up there above our church offices, so I try to scare them off. There are times when the battle is not out there somewhere far away. It is right over your life, circling, waiting for a place to land. Just like those buzzards perched high on the roof, the enemy looks for a place to settle in your thoughts, your home, and your spirit.
You may not even notice at first. It starts small. A little fear. A little doubt. A little heaviness that lingers longer than it should. Before long, those things try to take up residence. They perch. But you were never called to live with buzzards sitting over your life. You were called to drive them away.
One of the most powerful things you can do is remove the places where they land. Prayerlessness creates space for the enemy to settle. Weak praise leaves room for heaviness to stay. When you begin to pray, when you begin to worship with intention, something shifts in the atmosphere. You are no longer giving the enemy a place to sit. You have authority to say, “This home belongs to God. These thoughts belong to God. This family belongs to God.” You do not have to tolerate what God has already given you power over.
Then there is another weapon you carry, and it is one you may overlook. It is your memory of what God has already done. The victories behind you are not just moments to celebrate. They are reminders to stand on. When the enemy whispers that God will not come through, you can answer with confidence. You can hold up your past and say, “God did it before, and He will do it again.” Every prayer He has answered, every door He has opened, every battle He has brought you through becomes a testimony that pushes back fear.
You are not fighting empty-handed. You have a history with God. Sometimes the enemy hopes you will forget. He hopes you will sit quietly and let those thoughts circle unchecked. But when you begin to declare the faithfulness of God, when you remind yourself of His goodness, those buzzards begin to lose their place. This is not a passive season. Even in the waiting, you are actively guarding what God has given you. You are choosing what is allowed to remain and what must go.
So lift your voice again. Strengthen your prayer life. Remember what God has done. Refuse to let fear, doubt, or heaviness perch over your life. You belong to God, and He has already given you victory.
Prayer: Lord, show me any place I have allowed the enemy to settle. Help me to remove it and fill my life with prayer, praise, and faith in Your faithfulness. Amen.
