From Fox News:
Michael Marx, a 45-year-old Texan, has been identified as the individual seen allegedly carrying a firearm just blocks from the White House on Monday, sources told Fox News on Tuesday.
Secret Service Uniformed Division officers engaged the suspect after he was observed pulling a gun, a federal source previously told Fox News Digital.
In a news conference, Secret Service Deputy Director Matt Quinn told reporters that the suspect allegedly shot in the direction of officers after they tried to confront him near 15th Street and Independence Avenue, causing the agents to return fire.
The incident reportedly unfolded after highly trained Secret Service surveillance personnel noticed what officials described as a visible indication of a concealed weapon. According to Deputy Director Quinn, officers attempted to make contact with the suspect before he allegedly fled briefly, drew a firearm, and fired toward law enforcement personnel. Officers then returned fire to neutralize the threat.
Authorities also confirmed that a juvenile was struck during the confrontation but sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect, Michael Marx, was transported to a local hospital, though officials have not yet released information about his condition or what charges he may ultimately face.
The shooting took place not long after Vice President JD Vance’s motorcade had traveled through the area, although officials currently believe the incident was unrelated. Investigators are still working to determine whether the suspect intended to target President Donald Trump or other government officials. This shooting comes just one week after a different gunman attempted to kill the President at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
This incident reminds us how desperately our nation needs prayer for peace, wisdom, and protection. In a time marked by rising political tension and instability, let’s pray for the safety of our leaders, law enforcement officers, and innocent civilians caught in dangerous situations.
