As concerns over antisemitism on college campuses continue nationwide, the Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against UCLA, accusing the university of failing to protect Jewish and Israeli students during violent anti-Israel protests that erupted following the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israel. The case is part of a broader federal effort to address growing hostility toward Jewish students in higher education.

Who is praying on the wall?

    From The Epoch Times:

The Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division filed a lawsuit against the University of California–Los Angeles (UCLA) over alleged failure to protect Jewish and Israeli students on campus.

The lawsuit, filed with the District Court for the Central District of California Western Division on May 26, accuses the institution of “ongoing deliberate indifference to discrimination against Jewish and Israeli students” at its university in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Title VI bans the exclusion of or discrimination against an individual on the basis of race, color, or national origin in any program or activity that receives financial assistance from the federal government.

According to the complaint, anti-Israel demonstrations at UCLA escalated dramatically in the wake of the October 7 Hamas terrorist attack that killed roughly 1,200 people in Israel, including dozens of Americans. Federal officials allege that Jewish and Israeli students were blocked from accessing parts of campus, physically assaulted, and subjected to ongoing intimidation while university leadership failed to respond adequately.

The lawsuit specifically references an illegal encampment established in April 2024, where protestors allegedly formed human chains and barriers to prevent Jewish students from entering academic buildings and campus spaces. Reports included allegations of physical assaults, pepper spray attacks, and one Jewish student reportedly being hospitalized after suffering a head injury.

Federal investigators also claim UCLA officials ignored numerous complaints of antisemitism and anti-Israeli discrimination submitted through university channels. The Department of Justice is seeking major reforms to the university’s anti-discrimination policies and procedures, as well as recovery of federal taxpayer funds granted to the institution.

The lawsuit comes amid growing national scrutiny of how universities have handled rising antisemitism following the outbreak of war in the Middle East. While some reports suggest incidents on campuses declined in 2025 compared to the previous year, Jewish advocacy groups continue warning that hostility toward Jewish students remains far above pre-October 7 levels.

For believers, this situation is another reminder to pray against hatred, violence, and division in our nation. Let’s pray for the protection of Jewish students, for truth and justice on college campuses, and for university leaders to have the wisdom and courage to uphold equal treatment and safety for all students.
