Federal prosecutors have secured another round of convictions stemming from what they described as a coordinated terrorist attack on an ICE detention facility in Texas. The case represents a significant milestone in the federal government’s efforts to prosecute politically motivated violence carried out by Antifa-affiliated extremists.

The latest sentencing follows months of court proceedings that have underscored the seriousness of the July 2025 ambush, in which law enforcement officers came under heavy gunfire after being lured into the open by fireworks.

    From the Daily Wire:

Seven additional members of an Antifa cell were sentenced Wednesday for their roles in last year’s attack on a federal immigration detention facility.

The trial marked the federal government’s first domestic terrorism case against Antifa. During the July 4, 2025, ambush, the anarchists lured Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers out of the Prairieland Detention Center by setting off fireworks outside the north Texas facility before opening fire on them.

Prosecutors said the group possessed flyers reading “FIGHT ICE TERROR WITH CLASS WAR!” and “FREE ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS,” as well as a flag stating, “RESIST FASCISM — FIGHT OLIGARCHY.” They also spray-painted the words “ICE Pig” on a nearby vehicle and “F*ck you pigs” on a guard shack outside the facility.

Federal prosecutors alleged that the attack was carefully coordinated rather than spontaneous. Court records indicate that approximately 20 to 30 rounds were fired at law enforcement officers during the assault. Authorities say former Marine Corps Reservist Benjamin Hanil Song led the operation, distributed firearms to other participants, and opened fire with two AR-15-style rifles before shooting Alvarado Police Lt. Thomas Gross in the neck. Gross has since made a full recovery.

The latest sentences add to those handed down in late June, when eight additional members of the group were convicted, including Song, who received a 100-year prison sentence. Several defendants accepted plea agreements and cooperated with prosecutors, while others maintained that they had intended only to participate in a peaceful protest and noise demonstration outside the detention center. Defense attorneys have indicated they intend to appeal the convictions, and one remaining defendant is still awaiting sentencing.

The case comes amid a broader national debate over political violence and domestic extremism. For years, critics argued that attacks carried out by Antifa activists were not being prosecuted with the same intensity as other forms of domestic terrorism. Federal officials have pointed to this prosecution as evidence that organized violence against law enforcement officers will be treated as terrorism regardless of the perpetrators’ political ideology.

Let’s pray for justice that is impartial and courageous, protecting both law enforcement officers and the communities they serve. Let’s also pray for repentance and transformation in the lives of those who embrace political violence, asking God to replace hatred with truth, peace, and the hope found in Christ.
