A new survey from the Pew Research Center has revealed that a significant percentage of Muslim Americans hold a favorable view of Hamas, the U.S.-designated terrorist organization responsible for the October 7, 2023, massacre in Israel. The findings come as the nation continues to grapple with rising antisemitism, growing political divisions over the Middle East, and renewed debate about extremist ideology.

The poll also arrives at a time when several Muslim politicians are gaining greater prominence in American politics, prompting fresh scrutiny of how the conflict between Israel and Hamas is shaping public opinion both at home and abroad.
From the Daily Wire:
According to the Pew Research Center poll, a staggering 44% of Muslim Americans expressed a favorable opinion of Hamas. The view is out of step with Americans overall, with an overwhelming 84% of the broader American public viewing the jihadist group negatively.
The poll comes as Muslims have gained political power, with New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani becoming one of the most prominent Democrats in the United States. In Michigan, a state where Muslim populations have become the majority in certain pockets such as Dearborn, Democrat Abdul El-Sayed is the favorite to be the party’s nominee for U.S. Senate.
Both candidates are harsh critics of Israel, where the terrorist group Hamas operates. The poll drops alongside a mountain of sickening evidence exposing the subhuman savagery unleashed by the terror group upon innocent hostages. Since the October 7, 2023 massacre, captives dragged into the dark labyrinth of Gaza had been subjected to a calculated campaign of psychological and physical destruction.
The October 7 attack marked the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust, leaving approximately 1,200 people dead and hundreds more taken hostage into Gaza. Since then, investigators, medical professionals, and international organizations have continued to document evidence of murder, torture, sexual violence, and other atrocities committed by Hamas during the assault and throughout the captivity of many hostages. A report released earlier this year detailed numerous forms of systematic sexual and gender-based violence, concluding that these acts were not isolated incidents but part of a broader campaign of terror intended to inflict lasting physical and psychological harm.
The Pew survey therefore raises questions that extend well beyond public opinion polling. While many Muslim Americans unequivocally reject terrorism, the finding that nearly half of respondents expressed a favorable opinion of Hamas has intensified concerns about the spread of extremist sympathies within portions of the population. It also underscores the importance of clearly distinguishing between legitimate criticism of governments and support for an organization that the United States has designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization because of its deliberate targeting of civilians.
These developments are another reminder that the conflict in the Middle East is not merely geopolitical but deeply spiritual. As Iran-backed terrorist groups continue to threaten Israel and spread violence throughout the region, let’s pray for the protection of the Jewish people and for the exposure and defeat of ideologies that glorify terrorism. Let’s also pray that truth would prevail over propaganda, that Americans would recognize the evil of organizations like Hamas, and that our nation’s leaders would continue to stand firmly with Israel against those who seek its destruction.
