The legal battle over women’s sports is beginning to shift. After a recent Supreme Court ruling, states now have clearer authority to protect girls’ and women’s sports based on biological sex. That decision is already changing cases across the country.

One of those cases came to an end last week. Two male student athletes who identify as female dropped their lawsuit challenging New Hampshire’s law protecting girls’ sports. The move came after the Supreme Court affirmed that states may limit participation in women’s sports to biological females.

    From The Christian Post:

The Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), which successfully intervened in the case on behalf of multiple female student athletes in support of the state law, celebrated the news.

“Women and girls deserve privacy, safety, and equal opportunities. That can’t happen when males are competing in women’s sports, taking spots on women’s athletic teams, and winning women’s championships,” ADF Senior Counsel Jonathan Scruggs said in a statement.

“Trump’s executive orders and New Hampshire’s law recognize common sense and track Title IX, the federal law that ensures equal opportunities for women in athletics. We are grateful this case is coming to an end and that New Hampshire is free to protect its female athletes.”

The lawsuit challenged House Bill 1205, which New Hampshire enacted in 2024. The law limits girls’ and women’s school sports to biological females. A federal judge temporarily blocked the law while the case moved through the courts.

Apparently, the lawsuit ended after circumstances changed. According to the plaintiffs’ attorneys, one student moved out of New Hampshire. The other, now a high school senior, voluntarily left the girls’ soccer team. Last month’s Supreme Court ruling also reshaped the case. Rather than continue the legal challenge, the plaintiffs withdrew their complaint.

The discussion surrounding women’s sports is about more than athletics. It raises questions about fairness in sports competitions and how laws should protect women and girls. Let us pray for wisdom for judges, lawmakers, and states, that they will continue to keep men out of women’s sports, and for policies that uphold truth and respect the dignity of women.
