The Department of Justice is dramatically expanding its efforts to strip U.S. citizenship from individuals accused of obtaining it through fraud or by concealing serious criminal conduct. Federal officials say the coordinated initiative is the largest denaturalization campaign in the department’s history, reflecting the Trump administration’s broader focus on immigration enforcement and restoring integrity to the naturalization process.

Post a prayer for your state!

According to the DOJ, complaints have been filed against 25 naturalized citizens accused of unlawfully obtaining U.S. citizenship by hiding disqualifying crimes or fraudulent activity during the immigration process. The individuals, who come from 17 different countries, allegedly committed offenses ranging from attempted murder and child sexual abuse to identity theft and financial fraud.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said the effort is intended to protect both the value of American citizenship and public safety. He described citizenship as a privilege that must be earned honestly and warned that the department is prepared to pursue additional cases in the future.

The latest filings build on a broader immigration enforcement agenda pursued by the Trump administration. While denaturalization has long been available under federal law in cases involving fraud or material misrepresentation during the naturalization process, the DOJ has significantly increased its use in recent months. In June, the department announced actions against 17 naturalized citizens accused of offenses including child sexual abuse and large-scale financial fraud.

Supporters of the initiative argue that removing citizenship from those who obtained it illegally helps preserve confidence in the legal immigration system and protects Americans from individuals who should never have qualified for naturalization. Critics, however, have cautioned that denaturalization authority should be used carefully and only when supported by clear evidence and due process, given the seriousness of revoking citizenship.

The campaign also reflects the administration’s wider effort to combat immigration-related fraud. Alongside increased border enforcement and deportation initiatives, federal officials have emphasized identifying individuals who allegedly lied during the immigration process or concealed criminal histories in order to gain legal status in the United States.

Whether these cases ultimately succeed will depend on the evidence presented in federal court. If the government prevails, the individuals could lose their U.S. citizenship and face removal proceedings, though each case will proceed through the judicial process before any final action is taken. Let’s pray for wisdom for those in the DOJ, for protection for American citizens, and for justice!

Share your prayers for wisdom and justice in the comments.
