The numbers tell a dramatic story. Border Patrol apprehensions along the southwest border in July 2026 were 94 percent lower than the monthly average under the Biden administration, a shift that administration officials say reflects sustained enforcement and clear policy direction.
The Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced the milestone this week, crediting President Trump’s border security agenda for the sustained decline in illegal crossings. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin pointed to strict immigration law enforcement as the driving force behind the results. CBP Commissioner Rodney S. July’s apprehension numbers came in lower than any single month recorded between fiscal years 1992 and 2024, a span of more than three decades. Drug interdictions have also improved significantly. CBP seized 26 percent more narcotics in July 2026 compared to July 2024, with fentanyl seizures up three percent from the previous month and heroin seizures rising 20 percent. On the trade side, CBP processed $342 billion in imports and identified $23 billion in duties for collection during the same month, underscoring that securing the border has not come at the cost of lawful commerce.
