From Fox News:
The U.S. Supreme Court issued a temporary block on Friday on a lower court’s order requiring the Trump administration to fully fund the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) program amid the government shutdown.
…
On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Jack McConnell rejected the administration’s effort to only partially fund the benefits program for some 42 million low-income Americans for November as the shutdown drags on, giving the government 24 hours to comply.
…
After the appeals court ruling, the Trump administration filed the emergency appeal to SCOTUS late Friday.
As the government shutdown continues, SNAP funding has taken center stage. Funding for the program lapsed on November 1, a fact Fox notes is a historic first in the program’s 60-year history.
Judges have fought to force the President to fully fund SNAP for the duration of November. Though the Trump administration sought to appeal, it has met obstacle after obstacle. In fact, shortly before the Supreme Court’s ruling, an appeals court denied the administration’s request to block the lower court ruling mandating the funding of SNAP.
The longer the shutdown continues, the more programs like SNAP will dry up. Let’s pray for a swift end to the shutdown that will honor God and bless the American people!
