“You have not, because you ask not.” James 4:2 (NKJV)

God’s promises often require persistence in prayer. In Luke 18, Jesus tells the parable of the persistent widow. She repeatedly asked a judge for justice, and eventually, her persistence wore him out. Her refusal to quit illustrates the spiritual principle that persistent prayer aligns us with God’s purposes, even when the response seems delayed.

Abraham provides another example of persistent prayer. He interceded six times for Sodom and Gomorrah, pleading for the city to be spared. Though the city was not saved because only ten righteous people could be found, Abraham’s persistence demonstrates the importance of engaging God boldly and continuously. Elijah prayed seven times for rain after a drought, and on the seventh attempt, the heavens opened. Each act of persistent prayer strengthens our faith and shows God’s timing is perfect.

Persistence in prayer is also evident in Daniel. Daniel prayed three times a day, despite the law forbidding it, and God delivered him from the lions’ den. Hannah prayed fervently for a child, pouring her heart out until God granted her request. Even small children show this principle: a persistent child asking a parent will often receive what they need. God honors our faithfulness and willingness to continue asking.

Don’t give up when God seems silent. Write down your requests and pray consistently. Keep revisiting your prayers and watch for God’s answers. Sometimes breakthrough comes after persistence, not perfection. Matthew 7:7 says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Boldly approach God, trusting Him as a loving Father who delights in giving good gifts to His children.

Prayer: Lord, give me the perseverance to keep praying even when I do not see immediate answers. Help me to trust Your timing, remain faithful, and approach Your throne boldly. Strengthen my faith and keep me persistent, knowing You hear every request and will act according to Your perfect will. Amen.
