From Pain to Purpose
Ella grew up in East Texas, raised primarily by her single mother. Though her parents were never married, her dad, who was a pastor, shaped her understanding of the gospel from an early age. “He taught me what it looks like to have a real relationship with Jesus,” she says.
As a teenager, however, Ella’s life grew heavy.
Her mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness that caused daily struggles. Under that burden, Ella looked for escape, eventually drifting into unhealthy friendships, alcohol, and promiscuity. Then, right before she graduated high school, Ella was badly harmed by a family member. She says, “It devastated me.” Numb and hurt, Ella spiraled further into destructive choices, disconnected from God.
But something changed one day when a homeless woman asked Ella for help. Ella helped her find a place to stay. After they prayed together, the woman told Ella that she had planned to take her own life, but, somehow, she had met Ella instead.
“I drove away thinking about how God could still use me when my life was such a mess,” Ella says. “Deep down, I had always wanted to serve Him. That encounter convicted me.”
Turning Point
Ella returned to church and began seeking guidance on what she should do next.
“My stepmom told me about a program she had attended,” Ella shares, “and soon I saw an advertisement for Amazing Facts Center of Evangelism on Facebook.” However, Ella didn’t have money for tuition, living expenses, or transportation. On her father’s advice, she applied anyway.
The next day, her dad called. AFCOE had received an anonymous donation that covered the tuition to the exact penny.
AFCOE became a turning point that helped shape Ella’s life. “I built friendships I’ll carry for a lifetime, and I felt loved and discipled.” After graduating from AFCOE, Ella was baptized by her dad.
Since then, Ella has served in mission work and as a Bible worker. She met her husband, who later became a pastor. Today, they are an active ministry team, sharing the love of Jesus.
“AFCOE played a major role in where my life is today,” Ella says. “It truly changed my life, and I would recommend it to anyone. Christ is coming soon, and I believe we need to train workers, plant seeds, and be ready when He comes.”
