    Because He Lives

“And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.”  1 Corinthians 15:14 (KJV)

The resurrection of Jesus is not a small detail in your faith. It is everything. According to 1 Corinthians, if Christ is not risen, then your faith is empty. That means everything you believe stands or falls on one question: Did Jesus really come out of that grave?

Two thousand years ago, it looked like the answer was no. In the Garden of Gethsemane, betrayal began with a kiss. Jesus was arrested, falsely accused, and dragged before rulers who could find no fault in Him. He was mocked, beaten, and scourged. The cross was laid on His back, and He carried it to Calvary. There, the Son of God was nailed to wood and lifted between heaven and earth.

For hours He suffered, pushing up just to breathe, enduring pain beyond imagination. And then, with His final strength, He declared, “It is finished.” His body was taken down, wrapped, and placed in a borrowed tomb. A stone was rolled in front. The seal of Rome was set, and guards stood watch. It looked hopeless and final. All through that dark night and the next day, fear gripped Jesus’ followers. The One who had calmed storms, healed the sick, and raised the dead now lay silent. The grave still held its power. Death still seemed undefeated.

    But heaven was not finished.

On the third day, everything changed. Scripture declares, “He is not here: for He is risen” (Matthew 28:6, KJV). The stone was not rolled away to let Jesus out. It was rolled away so you could see in. The grave that once held Him could not hold Him any longer.

Jesus Himself said, “I am the resurrection, and the life” (John 11:25, KJV). When He walked out of the tomb, He did not just defeat death for Himself. He defeated it for you. The resurrection means your past does not define you. Your sin does not own you. And your future is not sealed by fear or failure.

Because He lives, you have hope that cannot be buried. Because He lives, death has lost its sting (1 Corinthians 15:55). Because He lives, you are not fighting for victory—you are living from it. The resurrection is your assurance that what looks final is not final when God is involved. What seems sealed can still be opened. What appears dead can live again.

Jesus walked out of the grave, and everything changed forever.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the power of the resurrection. Thank You that Jesus is alive and death has been defeated. Help me to live in the victory You have already secured. When I face fear or doubt, remind me that the grave is empty and my hope is alive. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
