From Fox News:
Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Todd Lyons submitted his resignation letter to Homeland Secretary Markwayne Mullin Thursday, writing that he will stay on through May 31 to assist the transition process, Fox News has confirmed.
According to a source, Lyons said in his letter he wants to spend more time with his family, including his sons, who are “reaching a pivotal point in their lives,” and that it’s been a privilege to serve under President Donald Trump.
“Director Lyons has been a great leader of ICE and key player in helping the Trump administration remove murderers, rapists, pedophiles, terrorists and gang members from American communities,” Mullin said in a statement.
Lyons’ departure comes after a highly active period for ICE, with approximately 584,000 deportations carried out since Donald Trump began his second term. His tenure reflects a renewed focus on enforcing immigration law and prioritizing the removal of individuals deemed threats to public safety and national security. His actions directly contributed to the restoration of order at the border and the strengthening of the rule of law after years of lax enforcement.
Before leading ICE, Lyons served for two decades within the agency and also brought experience from his time in U.S. Air Force special forces. His leadership has been praised by key administration figures, including Tom Homan and Stephen Miller, both of whom credited him with helping carry out what they describe as a “historic” effort to secure the nation’s borders.
Lyons claimed in his resignation letter he wanted to step down to spend more time with his family. Let’s pray for him and his family as he steps down, and let’s pray for a courageous, strong believer to take his place!
